Travel & Arrival Information

Location

Coming via Auckland? There are several ferry choices. Island Direct and Fullers360 are passenger only ferry services that departs from downtown Auckland, and the Sealink Ferry is a vehicle and passenger ferry service that departs from East Auckland. See below for more information on these options.

Arrival & Parking

Our driveway entrance is on the right, just past the Owhanake Reserve carpark. If you reach the locked gates you have gone too far, our driveway is about 100m back. There will be a sandwich board on the roadside with our logo on it. From the main entrance gate to the Harvest Shed it is about 75m. About 40m in, the driveway splits in three. Take the middle driveway with the retaining wall and go to end to large shed. (There is a sign post).

Parking

  • Tours – please park on roadside.
  • Other events – there is limited parking on site, and limited space to turn around. If you are earlier you are more likely to be able to park on site, otherwise you are welcome to park on the roadside.

Taxis

You may wish to ask your taxi driver to drop you at the gate entrance, rather than drive to the Harvest Shed, due to our limited turning area.

Passenger Ferries from Downtown Auckland and Devonport

There are two ferry company options for passenger ferries departing downtown Auckland, and arriving to Matiatia Bay. Matiatia is about 3 minutes by car from Nourish Gardens.

Island Direct

Island Direct is a bookable service.

Fullers Ferries

Fullers operates both a ‘walk-up’ service and a bookable service (for an additional cost). Fullers Ferries has some services which go via Devonport. At peak times, for the ‘walk-up’ service we would recommend arriving at the Auckland or Devonport ferry terminal at least 30 minutes prior to the departure time, as sometimes there are too many ferry passengers and then later arrivals have to wait for the next ferry.

It is also a good idea to check their ‘Travel Alerts’ page as short notice changes to their timetable are posted there.

Timing: We recommend catching a ferry that departs at least 1.5 hours before the start of the event. If you catch a ferry that departs an hour before the event, then you may be on time if you use a taxi, but you also risk missing some of the start. See below for more detailed information.

Options for traveling from Matiatia to Nourish Gardens

Taxi

We would recommend  travelling with a Waiheke based taxi company. During busier times taxis from Auckland come to the island but they are not so familiar with the island. We suggest Wai Cabs as one option (0800 924 222).

You may wish to ask your taxi driver to drop you at the gate entrance, rather than drive to the Harvest Shed, due to our limited turning area.

Timing: You will need to catch a ferry that departs at least 1 hour before the start time of the  Nourish Event. You will definitely need to book a taxi if you only leave an hour.

Bus

You can catch any bus from the Matiatia ferry terminal. The closest bus stop to Nourish Gardens is next to the Library – ask the bus driver to tell you where it is. It is only a couple of minutes from the ferry terminal – it will save you about 10-15 minutes walking. From the bus stop you will need to walk down Korora Rd till you get to Nourish Gardens. It is about a 10-15 minute walk.

Timing: Ideally you will need to catch a ferry that departs at least 1.5 hours before the start time of the Nourish Event. If you have time to spare, a detour to Oneroa Village for a coffee is an option.

Walk

It is possible to walk from Matiatia ferrry terminal to Nourish Gardens, although be prepared for some hills! You can follow the road route, or take one of the walking tracks. There are several walking tracks that will bring you to Owhanake Bay Reserve (opposite Nourish), although be aware that there isn’t just one straightforward track, you’ll will have to join a couple together.

Timing: We hesitate to say! But we would suggest catching a ferry that departs at least 2 hours before the start time of the Nourish Event.

Sealink Vehicle Ferry

If you are bringing a vehicle to Waiheke, you will need to pre-book your passage as far in advance as possible, as the ferry can book out quickly at peak times. It departs from Half Moon Bay, Auckland, and arrives at Kennedy Point. Check the ‘Travel alerts’ section for any short notice changes to their timetable.

Nourish Gardens is about 15 minutes by car from Kennedy Point. You can also travel as a passenger on the Sealink ferry (i.e. without a car) – you can then take a taxi (see taxi notes under Fullers Ferry above) or there is usually a bus service to Oneroa Village. From Oneroa Village it is about a 15 minute walk to Nourish Gardens.
